Did you know that our bodies are made up of 60% water? With this in mind, it’s even more important to make sure that you’re drinking enough. Not only does your body need it to function, there are many other benefits of drinking water.

First of all, drinking water keeps you hydrated and helps maintain energy levels. That’s why a lot of people drink a glass when they get up every morning. Drinking water can help with digestion, circulation, and protect tissues and joints.1

How much water should you drink, you ask? Although the exact number depends on your specific body, there’s an easy equation. Once you find out how much you weigh, divide that number in half to get the number of ounces of water you should drink. For instance, if you weigh 180 pounds, your number would be 90.

If you have health concerns, such as kidney issues, you should consult your doctor to learn the amount of water that’s best for you. Harvard Medical School suggests about four-to-six cups per day of plain water, which is about 32-48 ounces, depending on your health issues. However, the average daily water intake, which includes other sources like tea, fruits, and vegetables, is 11.5 (92 oz) cups for women and 15.5 cups (124 oz) for men

Here are five ways to encourage yourself to drink more water:

  1. Set a reminder on your phone

We get it — there are so many things you are responsible for every day, and it’s hard to remember to drink water. Make it easy by setting a recurring alarm that will remind you! There are even apps out there to remind you to get in your daily H2O.

  1. Add flavor for encouragement

Think the flavor of water is bland and boring? Choose to add your own favorite flavor to encourage you to drink more! Just about any fruit can be added to a pitcher of water or your bottle. We suggest a mixture of lemon, strawberries, and mint. You could even add a small piece of ginger for a spicy boost.

  1. Drink water with every meal and snack

You likely eat at least three times a day, which is also a great opportunity to hydrate yourself. Every time you eat a meal or snack, be sure to drink some water. The water can even help you to feel full faster, which can keep you from overdoing it on the snacks between meals!

  1. Buy a water bottle that reminds you

Technology is pretty incredible these days — and there’s even a tech-savvy water bottle for those of you that need a reminder. There are a variety of bottles on the market that can remind you when it’s time to drink up.

  1. Carry it with you everywhere you go

You won’t forget to drink your water if you’re holding it all day, right? Whether you work in an office, are out running errands daily, or you usually stay around the house, designate a specific water bottle to take with you anywhere and everywhere you go.

Although remembering to drink water might seem daunting, these tips will help you change it from a chore into a habit!
